Lawmen arrested two suspected Chinese drug dealers and confiscated a kilo of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, worth P5 million during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Xiongwei Chen a.k.a. “Choleng” and Weier Chen, both natives of Fujian, China, are now detained and undergoing interrogation at the National Capital Region Police Office headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Joel Pagdilao said his men from the Anti Illegal Drugs-Special Operations Task Group arrested the suspects following a brief chase from Katipunan Avenue to Carlos P. Garcia Street at 12:30  p.m.

Prior to the arrest, one of the policemen posed as a buyer and arranged for the purchase of 250 grams of shabu with the suspects, who agreed to make the deal on Katipunan. After the transaction, the suspects noticed the presence of the other operatives and tried to escape on their get-away vehicle.

During the arrest, the police recovered four more plastic bags containing more or less 750 grams of the illegal substance.

Pagdilao said the latest apprehension of the Chinese nationals came on the heels of the previous arrest of three Taiwanese and two other Chinese drug dealers.

“The arrest of these suspects is a manifestation of our sustained anti-drug operations despite our election duties,” he said.

Early this month, NCRPO operatives seized 55 kilos of shabu worth P275 million from three Taiwanese nationals in a buy-bust operation in Ayala-Alabang Village in Muntinlupa City.

Pagdilao said his team was busting illegal drugs trade in Metro Manila in line with the government’s Oplan Lambat Sibat program.

During the first four months of the year, the NCRPO arrested 55 suspected drug pushers and seized P400 million worth of the prohibited substance.

Pagdilao said that from January to April 24, his men confiscated 80.384 kilograms of shabu amounting to P401.74 million.
