Polar bears on thin ice

Just as the heat of summer has set in, life-size polar bear sculptures are displayed at a mall in a bid to educate the public on the plight of this endangered specie.

SM Aura’s Skypark serves as the exhibition space for On Thin Ice: An Art Installation for a Cause, a joint project between the World Wide Fund for Nature, the world’s largest conservation organization, and SM Cares.

The exhibit, which is also part of the #ArtinAura campaign, depicts polar bears seeking shelter in the tropical space of the Philippines, as if to symbolize the ongoing loss of their natural habitat. Given that they are apex predators, polar bears regulate the food chain and play an important role in the overall health of the marine environment.

Art installation for a cause, 'On Thin Ice,' depicts polar bears seeking shelter in the Philippines.

Surrounding the display are QR codes to prompt guests to visit WWF-Philippines’ website and become a member.

Through the years, SM Aura Premier has been a strong advocate of the environment, garnering a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED certification that verifies the building’s green features, stating that the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of SM Aura’s building are resource efficient, high performing, healthy, and cost efficient.
