Colorado’s ‘Most Unique Resort in the World’

COLORADO Springs – Officials of The Broadmoor have shifted to high gear as they looked to the centennial celebration in 2018 of what they call “the most unique resort in the world.”

They tell guests from the different states, and some from overseas including a couple of families from the Philippines, the dream of founder Spencer Penrose has not been lost on them.

Spencer was the man who not only saw the future but also set about creating it, envisioned this place at the gateway of the Rockies as a destination filled with infinite possibilities.”

Spencer looked at those possibilities for the resort and the surrounding areas of wide plains and verdant mountains.

On the eve of The Broadmoor’s centennial, officials said they continue to do the same by “enhancing and expanding not only our campus, but also (the resort’s) Wilderness Experience properties of The Ranch at Emerald Valley, Cloud Camp and The Broadmoor Fishing Camp.”

They continue to improve and advance The Broadmoor Pikes Peak Cog Railway, which has been serving for more than 125 years to the top of “America’s Mountain.”

They take pride in being stewards of a treasured jewel – the Seven Falls – reimagining and reopening it for families to explore and enjoy after the devastating floods in 2013.

Activities and adventures have been added, like fly-fishing, falconry, tomahawk throwing and archery, apart from an unparalleled zip-lining adventure that takes the fearless adventure-seekers high above canyons and waterfalls.

STIMULATING THE SENSES. Outside the Broadmoor, near the lake and not far from the 14,115-foot Pikes Peak Region as background, visitors can literally breathe in the mountain air that playfully sweeps down to, as some describe, soothe the soul from the verdant slopes perched on lush valleys, exhaling 18 degrees Celsius.

The adventure traverses more than 566 hectares of scenic Colorado backcountry.

As part of its centennial, golf’s greats vied for the 2018 US Senior Open title – tickets starting to be on sale this summer (June to August in the Philippines).

There will be various ticket types for the four-day event – June 28-July 1– to suit everyone from avid golfers to families looking for a day of fun.

Officials said children aged 17 and below were admitted free with a ticketed adult.

High above Colorado Springs, adventurous guests can have a feast at the restorative nature of the Broadmoor Ranch at Emerald Valley which some say “soothes the soul and stimulates the senses.”

The Ranch sits in a lush valley surrounded by towering peaks and 40,468 hectares of the Pike National Forest where herds of deer abound.

A visitor may indulge in one of The Ranch’s appointed cabins – strikingly beautiful by any standard.

Each of the cabins features gas fireplaces, rich furnishings, and modern amenities.

Soon as the Colorado sun illuminates the mountains, visitors can go fly fishing in pristine mountain lakes, hiking and biking along scenic trails, or exploring the mountains on horseback.

Later in the day visitors can unwind by soaking in an outdoor hot tub and sipping fine wine.

This, on a panoramic terrace while enjoying the beauty of a Rocky Mountain sunset.

For nearly 100 years, The Broadmoor has been a destination that has attracted celebrities, politicians, heads of state, athletes, artists and other high-profile figures.

Among them were Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, Miss USA 2014 Nia Sanchez, three-time Olympic gold medalist in Beach Volleyball Kerri Walsh Jennings, Prince of Wales Harry, tennis ace Venus Williams, and baseball Hall of Famer George Brett.

In the fine print of recent appearances from abroad include retired bank executive Joey Quinto of Dagupan City as well as family physician Hermione Mary Anne C. Santos of Toronto, her husband Gerry and son Aaron Maximilian and parents from Metro Manila in the Philippines.

The Broadmoor has also hosted intimate gatherings and a bevy of interestingly unique activities.

Bill Facella, director of Conference Management and Catering, says, “The beauty of events at The Broadmoor lies in the diversity of venues and experiences we can offer.

“Whether your vision is an elegant gala in the Main Ballroom, a casual reception at Seven Falls, or even a bowling tournament at Play, we can deliver an amazing event.”

Guests, who have experienced such an extraordinary welcome and hospitality, are not amazed.”
