Warming up the colder months are tailored coats and trousers, edgy accessories, and luxe leather and ruffles with sequins and paillettes in between.

Let’s take a look at the collections made for the cold season presented on the fall/winter 2019 runways of luxury labels Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and Boss.

Dreaming on a dance floor

Strutting on the theme of Dreaming, Michael Kors fall 2019 runway show at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, which transformed into an old-school ballroom with distressed herringbone floors, velvet curtains, disco balls, and chandeliers, was the perfect stage for the edgy looks the designer showcased to his audience.

Michael Kors partnered with renowned nightclub Studio 54 on a capsule of ready-to-wear and accessories for women and men.

“From my first time at Studio 54, back in 1977, I knew that the mix of style, energy, and glamour was truly special,” said Kors. “There were no fashion rules, no dress code—people wore whatever they wanted, and it was almost always something glamorous and over-the-top.”

His runway show also featured a fabulous finish, courtesy of the legendary Barry Manilow. The singer/songwriter performed during the models’ finale walk, serenading the audience with a memorable rendition of his famous Copacabana song. Iconic supermodel and longtime muse Patti Hansen closed the show in her first runway walk since 1994.

Michael Kors is at Central Square in Bonifacio High Street Central, Greenbelt 5, Newport Mall, Power Plant Mall, Rustan’s Makati, and Shangri-La Plaza Mall.

Modernist New York

The boundless creativity—in art, design, architecture—known in the City That Never Sleeps united on the runway of Boss’ fall/winter 2019 collection for men and women.

The brand’s art of tailoring continues to evolve this season.

Tailored coats, as in long greatcoats and capes in shearling, alpaca wool, and double-faced cashmere, were in focus. Structured coats contrasted perfectly with fluid dresses for her, and slouchy knitwear for him.

Knitwear featured distinctive stripe motifs, while mixed materials were evident on both outerwear and accessories. Architectural influences were seen in sculptural shapes and unexpected proportions, while raw-edge finishes and stitching details further underscored the elevated feel of the curated collection.

Core palette of camel, mélange gray, biscuit, and winter white was the star. Cool yellow together with a mix of blues brought to life with flashes of dark blush pink.

Boss is at Greenbelt 5, Shangri-La East Wing, Rustan’s Shangri-La, City of Dreams, 158 Designer’s Blvd. Newport Mall, and Rustan’s Cebu.

Revamped classics

Inspired by the Black Mountain College, an experimental institution known for its unconventional approach to education, Tory Burch’s fall 2019 collection consists of “a mix-match of revamped classics,” as in floral prints, graphic stripes, menswear materials, and romantic silhouettes.

The silhouettes presented at Pier 17 reflected effortless modernity, realized in polished pieces such as tailored trousers, structured loden coats, and classic blazers. There was a refined magpie approach to layering as seen in sporty parkas draped over evening gowns and a striped slip under a gauzy shirt dress.

Muted neutrals—crisp white, black, navy—were balanced by pops of vibrant colors of bright yellow and green. Meanwhile, bold stripes, vivid paisleys, and feminine florals played off one another to unexpected effect. Taking center stage in the fabric department were herringbones and checks, crochet patterns, sequins and paillettes, and unfinished embroideries which were a nod to the technical artistry of Anni Albers, a central figure at Black Mountain.
