Did you know that buying second-hand items can help save the planet? Every item we consume leaves an impact on the environment. So, to preserve Mother Earth we must only consume what we need, and this means reusing items to avoid piling up landfills.

When we reuse items we save on cost, lessen environmental waste, and reduce the consumption of packaging materials that only end up in our trash bins. Before purchasing anything, consider decreasing the carbon footprint by opting for a pre-loved version.

Recommerce promotes sustainability because it lessens environmental waste byselling and buying pre-owned products

Carousell is the go-to portal for everything second-hand. Buyers can search for anything and everything from blazers, books, to SUVs, apartments, and condo units. Just about anything you wish to purchase has a pre-loved version in Carousell.

During the lockdown, which forced everyone to stay home, e-commerce became part of everyone’s leisure activity and recommerce, the selling, and buying of previously-owned products, became a sensible alternative.

“The pandemic has provided customers with access to a variety of products from the convenience and safety of their homes,” remarked  Carousell Philippines’ new General Manager Djon Nacario.

The all-in-one preloved marketplace platform began in Singapore in 2012 and was launched available in the Philippines in 2016. In 2019 it merged the online classified site Olx.

According to Carousell’s Inaugural Recommerce Index 2021, the Philippines is the most receptive market for secondhand goods. In the survey, 92 percent of consumers responded that they’ve bought secondhand items including unused and brand-new items by casual everyday sellers.

Carousell offers pre-loved items such as cars, gadgets, clothes, and more

The highest among Carousell Group markets, the report showed that  58 percent of Filipino online consumers are comfortable with secondhand apparel, while 75 percent of Filipino merchants choose to sell pre-loved clothes. Selling at Carousell is as easy as taking a photo. Nearly anyone can be an instant entrepreneur by offering pre-loved items.

Recommerce continues to be a rising opportunity as the world commits to sustainability to minimize environmental impact. With its growing number of buyers and sellers, Carousell has launched several initiatives to further improve the platform and strengthen sustainability efforts.

The platform recently merged with Property24, the leading online platform for developers, agencies, and brokers. Buyers of condo units, house and lot, or commercial spaces need not go to several sites to look for possible purchases. Everything can be accessed from the Carousell.

“This is something that we’ve been planning since OLX merged with Carousell. We have taken in feedback from our partners to make our property category even better,” Djon added.

For car buyers, the platform partnered with Premium Warranty Services Philippines, Inc., a provider of used vehicle inspection and warranty services. Carousell will have a warranty program that will provide confidence and peace of mind to buyers of second-hand cars. Incidentally, a total of 6,000 cars were listed on the platform as of February 2022.

“We recognize that the real condition of the car is a legitimate concern. The warranty program will boost buyer’s trust and will give assurance that the items listed on the platform are safe from defects,” Djon said.

Online shopping is a favorite leisure activity among consumers

The platform will also highlight the good work of leading developers with their very own “Carousell Property Awards.” At the forefront are the unique features of known brands like Suntrust, Camella, Crown Asia, and Lumina, among other leading developers.

Carousell will also pay tribute to entrepreneurs with “The Caroupreneur Awards.” The event will honor the achievements of entrepreneurs who scaled their businesses online as well as Filipinos who gave away good quality preloved items for free. It will have sustainability-themed categories such as Heroes of Green, and other categories like Best in Carousell – Autos (Used Cars), Autos Workshop and Services, Property, Home Services, and many more. Winners will be announced later in the year.
