The mall elevator girl who charmed the nation with her perky attitude was recognized as “Model Employee of the Year” at the recently concluded Messengers of Hope Awards 2020 during the Standout Leadership Conference held at Subic Bay Travelers Hotel.
SM Elevator Girl Cheridel Alejandrino first rose to fame after a video clip of her at work went viral in 2013, drawing positive reactions from the viewers. The video clip shows her giving information to the shoppers in a perky manner.
“Buong puso po akong nagpapasalamat para sa walang sawa ninyong paniniwala sa aking kakayahan bilang isang empleyado—mula sa pagiging day-off at break time reliever sa comfort room, elevator attendant, Snacktime sales clerk at cashier sa SM City Olongapo, hanggang sa malipat ako sa SM Supermalls head office kung saan, sa pamamagitan ninyo at ng aking mga butihing boss, ay na-promote bilang isang marketing officer
(I am truly grateful for the public’s trust in me as an employee who started as day-off and break time restroom reliever, elevator attendant, Snacktime sales clerk and cashier at SM City Olongapo, until I was transferred to SM Supermalls head office, where, through the help of my bosses, I was promoted as marketing officer),” shared Alejandrino.
The Messengers of Hope Award is conferred to select Olongapeños who stood out and made significant contribution to the City of Olongapo. Their achievements have created a significant impact and have brought honor and inspiration to the youth and, in the process, strengthened their hopes for a more progressive and promising future.
From the 2013 video clip that launch Alejandrino’s career, she has been interviewed in several media outfits and TV shows, and was also given the chance to have her life story featured on ABS-CBN’s drama anthology series, Maalaala Mo Kaya.
In 2016, her elevator etiquette “walk on the left, stand on the right” video, posted on SM Supermalls’ Facebook page, has also gone viral online.
Today, aside from being a wife and a mom, she is SM Supermalls’ brand ambassador and has become a source of joy of shoppers as she regularly visits SM malls nationwide.
“Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala sa biyayang natatanggap ko dahil ngayon ay nabibigyan ako ng pagkakataon na ikutin ang mga SM malls mula Luzon, Visayas, at Mindanao na dati ay pangarap ko lamang (I still can’t believe I have received all these blessings which have allowed me to tour SM malls in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, which only used to be a dream),” she expressed.
