Tip on proper cat food storage

Just like human food, cat food should be stored properly or  your cats can get sick.

Brothers Seb and Santi love two things:  playing at the garden and eating both dry and wet cat food.

Here are tips from PetMD:

1.Keep the original packaging

The cat food bag is designed to keep out the elements and maintain the freshness of the food for as long as possible. The   bag also contains the expiration date, barcode, and batch code  which are important if there is a cat food recall.

2.Never mix  old cat food with new cat food

You may taint the new  food with the old  cat food.  Put the old food  in another container instead and feed this to your cat first.

3. Keep cat food away from sunlight

Sunlight can elevate temperatures and humidity, thus, it can speed up food degradation and increase the risk of Salmonella or other bacterial contamination .

4. Do not expose the food to air

Seal the cat food bag after every feeding to prevent unnecessary exposure to air and humidity which can speed up the rate of food degradation and also increase the risk of bacterial contamination like Salmonella.

5. Throw away expired cat food

Expiration dates  are put on the packaging to ensure that the food   is still safe for consumption by your cat. Never risk your cat’s  health by giving expired food.
