Something hot for cold days

The cold, rainy weather calls for something warm, comforting, and perhaps something with soup and comes in a bowl.

Noodle soup and our very own soup dishes are popular when days are nippy. Pasay’s SM Mall of Asia highlights the restaurants within its premises that serve piping hot bowls of noodles with vegetables and delicious broths with choice cuts from Japan, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Japanese restaurants Kimono Ken, Ramen Nagi, and Tsukemen offer their respective takes on ramen –  made with Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat or fish-based broth.

Kimono Ken (north main mall, level 1) serves, among others, spicy miso-based Negi Ramen with leeks, minced pork, chashu (pork belly), and vegetables.

Fukuoka-born restaurant Ramen Nagi (south main mall, level 1) – famous for trailblazing the Omotenashi sheet, a personalization option that lets guests customize their ramen bowl – lets diners enjoy Butao King, Red King, Black King, or Green King in the comforts of their home with the Ramen To Go takeout boxes.

Tsukemen (MOA food hall, level 3) serves ramen with the noodles separate from the broth, giving diners the option to enjoy them together or one at a time. Must-try is Niboshi Ramen.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Little Kitchen, Roasts Chicken Co., Mann Hann, and Masuki bring the tasty diversity of Chinese cuisine’s soup dishes.

Hong Kong Little Kitchen (north main mall, level 1) lets customers choose how they want to enjoy their noodle soup, with regular, spicy, or dry noodles. Roasts Chicken’s (MOA food hall, level 3) bestsellers include Wonton Noodle Soup and Beef Kenchi Noodle Soup.

For Fookien specialties, Mann Hann (north main mall, level 1) serves Maki Mi, Green Seafood Soup with Scallops, Batchoy Seaweed Soup, and Seafood Lomi. Masuki (north main mall, level 1), a restaurant John Ma established in Chinatown in the 60s, is popular for its Antigua Mami served since the 30s.

PIPING HOT. Chinese and Japanese noodle soup dishes (from left, clockwise) Beef Tendon Noodle Soup from Hong Kong Little Kitchen, Wonton Noodle Soup from Roasts Chicken Co., Red King Ramen from Ramen Nagi, and Mami from Masuki.

Craving laksa? This spicy coconut soup noodle dish is commonly served in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, southern Thailand, and at Limanpulo (MOA food hall).

Manam (south main mall, level 1) specializes in serving Filipino classics with a twist like the hearty Sinigang na Beef Short Rib.

The aforementioned soup dishes and more are available for limited dine in, al fresco, takeout, and delivery.
