Tagaytay’s flair for fine fare

Limited movement and safety protocols nationwide have pushed us to live with just the essentials and grab what’s accessible—something that also shows in our reignited, if strengthened, love of home-cooked meals.

HERE’S THE BEEF. Juicy Tomahawk steak paired with fine wine served at the Highlander Steakhouse in Tagaytay.

Household kitchens have become busier, and neighborhood restaurants have gained more customers.

Home-style restaurants, many now open for business, serve the best of both worlds: a taste of home amid a relaxing and safe ambiance, and the conveniences and gastronomic experience in a fine dining spot.

In a premier community in Tagaytay, for instance, the culinary experience of residents and their guests is catered by an impressive array of fine dining outlets and specialty restaurants.

Touting the best steak right off the grill and wines from the finest vineyards, the Highlander Steakhouse in Tagaytay Highlands is the Club’s premier restaurant. Located along Belle View Drive, it features a log cabin design that enhances its rustic ambiance as diners enjoy US and Australian Wagyu steaks complemented by one of the most impressive collections of single malt in the country.

Neighborhood Chinese restaurant is taken care of Highlands China Palace, located along Palace Drive near the Sports Center. Its Winter Garden on the ground floor serves a la carte Cantonese specialties.

Restaurants that serve dishes that taste like home include (clockwise) Concha’s Garden Café with its Classic Bulalo Soup, Amare La Cucina’s Gorgonzola Pizza, and The Great Room’s healthy American Breakfast.

The Great Room, which sits on one of the highest points of Tagaytay Highlands, provides guests of The Spa and Lodge fine and healthy meals close to home with a side of authentic log cabin ambience as diners get a whiff of the aromatic scent of its western red cedar logs.

Classic and well-loved Filipino dishes can be savored at Concha’s Garden Café, located at the Highlands Golfers’ Lounge and Midlands Golfers’ Lounge. Delectable heirloom dishes served include caldereta, crispy pata, lauya (pork and vegetable stew), and lechon kawali, among others.

Meanwhile, Aozora Japanese Restaurant, features a mouthwatering selection of Japanese a la carte set fare. The restaurant’s authentic Japanese meals earned for it the Tripadvisor’s Certificate of Excellence Award in 2018 and 2019.

Italian restaurant Amare La Cucina, located along Gourmet Avenue, is Tagaytay Highlands’ go-to place for the biggest lineup of pizza and pasta selections.
