The 89th Academy Awards on February 26 was going on smoothly until disaster struck at the tail end when the winner of Best Picture was wrongly announced.
In case you didn’t know, Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway wrongly announced the winner of the final award for the night was the Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone-starrer La La Land. However, as the producers and cast of the musical film were on stage, producer Jordan Horowitz declared that it was actually Moonlight that won Best Picture.
“This is not a joke, 'Moonlight’ has won Best Picture,” Horowitz said while holding up the card proving his announcement.
It was an awkward moment when the producers and cast of Moonlight also went on stage, and the people from La La Land were forced to hand their trophies to the real winners.
The said Oscars scenario was rather familiar, as in December 2015, host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced the winner of the Miss Universe 2015, naming Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez Miss Universe when it was actually Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach who won.
Well, much like that talked-about pageant night, the Twitter-verse had a field day when a plot twist happened during the showbiz's most prestigious award ceremony.
