The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced in late November that there would be two special presents for locals and visitors this holiday season. The first to launch is the “Hong Kong WinterFest,” which will run until January.

“Every winter, Hong Kong is filled with Christmas and New Year happenings. Impressive sparkling decorations can be seen all around town, creating a festive atmosphere that draws visitors to the city,” shares HKTB’s Executive Director Dane Cheng.

“This year, we are expanding the scale of the annual WinterFest campaign and will install the city’s tallest outdoor Christmas tree in front of the beautiful Victoria Harbour to create a unique photo backdrop. Together with the season-limited Christmas Wonderland, the location will transform into a  unique photo checkpoint with a diverse array of programs to showcase the vibrancy of Christmas and New Year celebrations in Hong Kong to travelers worldwide,” Cheng added.

Infused with a citywide festive atmosphere, Hong Kong aims to be the best city to spend Christmas and usher in the New Year.

A host of interactive experiences and IG-worthy spots greets visitors this WinterFest 2022. Witness the city’s tallest outdoor Christmas tree set right in front of the iconic Victoria Harbour and a coastal European-style Christmas Town also welcomes visitors at the Art Park of West Kowloon Cultural District. Day or night, the scene is breathtaking and perfect for photos. At night, the Christmas Town takes on a dreamy, romantic atmosphere perfect for families and friends to enjoy together.

On the other end of the West Kowloon Cultural District Art Park, a Christmas Wonderland transports locals and visitors alike to a series of Christmas-themed lodges. Visit a snow-clad kingdom, an enchanting candy house, and a nostalgic childhood home among others. Spectacular performances and a series of DIY workshops will also guarantee you take home new memories and treats for your loved ones.

Spectacular Multimedia Show to light up Victoria Harbour

With the iconic Hong Kong skyline as the backdrop, the exuberant celebrations begin with a succession of live performances. A 3D animated short film also lights up the harbor, leading to a countdown on the façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) that transforms into a giant clock face, counting down the last 30 seconds of 2022.

As the clock ticks to midnight, a sensational 10-minute multimedia show lights up the sky. A myriad of dancing lights projected from different locations along the harbor front and moving lights beamed from Star Ferry vessels paints the skyline in dazzling colors.

Effective December 14, travelers who tested negative for COVID-19 are welcome to visit Hong Kong without quarantine. Fully vaccinated visitors can enjoy the city freely with a valid Vaccine Pass, including dining at restaurants, visiting attractions, and more.
