While most of the students are seniors, students of all ages are also welcome. There are special dance classes like Chair Dancing by Danny Vinculado, which gives opportunities for ‘super seniors’—the elderly in wheels, walkers, hip and with lower leg injury or those who underwent medical procedures—to energize and be delighted. Dekada, under former member Maneuvres and Hotlegs, Mark Soler ‘Heat’ Cruz features, on the other hand, popular dance crazes and steps of yesterday and today.

Instructor Jose Antonio Anonas leads the Mindful Movement way in the Sunshine Place’s Tai Chi Yang Style (24 movements) for beginners to find serenity and inner peace. He also offers Healing Qi Gong classes both Seated for those with limited mobility and Active Standing Flow. Both Qi Gong classes will apply Wuji Yuan Gong Style, an adaptation from International Sheng Zhen Society.  Active Standing Flow also includes as 16-Ways of Chi.

Other Mindful Movement classes at Sunshine Place include Senior Yoga with instructor Rina Nakayama. A gentle practice of modern yoga poses and sequences using the chair as foundation and support, it is well adapted for seniors looking to increase mobility and flexibility without much load or strain on the body. Rina started out teaching Kids Yoga in 2013 and has since been diligently practicing and training to teach Vinyasa Flow, Senior Yoga, Restorative, Gentle Flow, Yin Yoga, Prenatal, and Post Natal Yoga, and Meditation.

Physical fitness is important for all age groups, but it becomes even more important as we age. The most common goal for seniors is to maintain their mobility and independence. A good fitness program will help them achieve this goal and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
