Building up brunch

Brunch. It’s become synonymous with bottomless mimosas, all-you-can-eat sushi and plates piled with oysters. But LEGO?

Redefining the Sunday brunch experience is a hotel in Makati better known for hushed, elegant interiors than toys, or indeed, children running around its food outlets.

“We realized that Sunday is family day,” explained Monique Toda, Director of Communications for Raffles and Fairmont Makati. “And it’s really the children who play a huge part in determining where a family is going to do brunch. So we tried to think of something that would draw the little ones in, and keep them entertained.”

Enter LEGO.

“We were casting around for ideas – jumping castles, balloons, magicians… It had to be an activity that would hold the children’s attention. And then we hit upon the idea of bringing LEGO into the equation.”

So on Sundays throughout February and March, children and adults alike will be able admire a replica of the hotel and Spectrum’s show kitchen built with Lego bricks. Tables will be decorated with LEGO floral centerpieces, and newly created dessert will be offered, inspired by LEGO.

Spectrum is calling it the most Awesome Sunday Brunch. Adding to the fun will be a separate play area for kids aged four to 14 featuring LEGO bricks and play table, movies, and an exciting “My Own Creation” contest complete with exciting prizes.

And while the children are busy constructing their alternate LEGO universes, the parents can relax and have their fill of oysters and prime rib and Eggs Benedict. And more champagne, too, while they’re at it.
