The local government of Quezon City has vowed to give more support to school teachers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Sunday said teachers have always played an important role to sustain and maintain the quality of education.

“Our teachers have a huge role to maintain the high quality of education, especially at this time of the pandemic. That’s why we are doing our best to respond to their needs from free medical check-ups, gadgets, to allowance,” she stressed.

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis in March last year, the city government has been providing its students and teachers with school supplies, data allowances, tablets, and laptops to support them both in blended and distance learning modalities, she said.

The city government has given public school teachers 3,210 laptops and a total of 16,378 prepaid sim cards with a P1,000 monthly load allowance.

Moreover, teachers also receive a monthly cash allowance from the city.

At least 16,284 teaching and non-teaching personnel in all public elementary and high schools have been provided with free X-ray and urinalysis check-ups.

For the school year 2021 to 2022, elementary to high school, as well as special education students will all receive school supplies, while students from Grade 4-12 will be provided tablets with sufficient monthly data allowance. An additional 2,383 laptops will also be distributed to teachers.

“To support our schools in printing and preparing modules and learning materials, the city has also turned over risographs and photocopy machines to all public schools in QC,” Belmonte said.

All schools were provided internet connectivity. Braille embossers were also distributed to select public high schools with a special program for blind students as part of the city’s initiative for inclusive education.
