Navotas has secured the second lowest ranking in daily attack rate of coronavirus disease 2019 among the local government units in Metro Manila.
According to the OCTA Research group, Navotas slid two spots from 14th place, with an attack rate of 4.9 percent per 1,000 population.
The study compared data gathered from September 20 to October 3 and September 27 to October 10. A higher attack rate means more people are getting infected by the virus.
“This serves as a validation of all our efforts to keep our constituents safe from COVID-19. However, we need to stay vigilant and careful. We cannot let our guard down because our cases could go up any time,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.
Tiangco recently announced that the city will continue to implement its 24-hour curfew for minors despite the decision of the COVID task force to allow people aged 15 to 65 to go out.
“We will also continue our strict implementation of safety protocols. I have instructed our police, Task Force Disiplina, and barangays to ensure that our constituents, especially children, stay safe in their homes,” he said.
A report from the Navotas City Police showed that since August 19, 15,297 residents have been apprehended for violation of various ordinances. Of this, 6,159 was for violation of curfew.
“Let us follow and practice our safety measures so we could protect and keep each other safe from the deadly disease,” he said.
As of October 16, Navotas reported 5,032 cases of COVID-19. This included 105 active cases, 144 deaths, and 4,783 recoveries.
