Manila law adjusts curfew hours

The Manila City government has passed an ordinance adjusting its curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During a live briefing Tuesday night, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso said the new schedule was approved by the city council under Ordinance No. 8647.

This dovetails with the national government’s declaration allowing restaurants and food stores to open at 30 percent of their dine-in capacity, Domagoso said.

Domagoso also said the local government will slowly lift the curfew as the COVID-19 pandemic becomes more manageable.

“Eventually, as I promised you (Manila citizens), when this state of health emergency ends I will slowly lift these restrictions,” he said.

However, Domagoso said curfew for minors will remain.

“That’s under a different law. We will not touch that for now,” Domagoso said.

“The care we show to our youth is essential, partly because some parents are not responsible with their children. The policy of this administration is always to protect the interest of minors,” he added.
