The City Government of Navotas has started hiring 1,000 jeepney and tricycle drivers, ambulant vendors and other workers in the informal sector whose livelihoods are affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

An initial batch of 184 Navoteños are now employed through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers Program #Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko Disinfecting/Sanitation Project (TUPAD #BKBK).

Workers of TUPAD #BKBK are assigned to clean and disinfect their respective homes and surroundings.

They are given cleaning solutions, bottle sprays and misting pump, as well as masks and gloves to protect them from the risk of contracting Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“We hope to provide Navoteños, who have lost their livelihoods, an opportunity to earn and sustain the needs of their family for the remainder of the enhanced community quarantine period,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

Meanwhile, the office of Congressman John Rey Tiangco also sought to hire 920 more TUPAD #BKBK workers.

The second batch will begin their emergency employment on April 3 to April 12.

TUPAD #BKBK forms part of the social amelioration program of the Department of Labor and Employment. Beneficiaries will receive P5,370 for 10 days of work.

Some 100 initial TUPAD applicants, who did not qualify for the program, were given relief packs containing four kilos of rice, six canned goods, four packs of noodles, six sachets of shampoo and one bar of bath soap.

Those who are pregnant or have children were given two extra packs of milk, while the elderly were given additional 14 tablets of vitamin C.
