The City Government of Navotas, under Mayor Toby Tiangco’s leadership, established more scholarships and learning opportunities for Navoteños.

During Tiangco’s first 100 days in office, Navotas created a scholarship for persons with disabilities. An initial batch of 467 Navoteño PWD students may now receive P500 monthly educational assistance.

Tiangco also signed a memorandum of agreement with the new batch of NavotaAs art scholars. Thirteen Navoteño students are now qualified to receive P16,500 transportation and food allowance as well as P20,000 worth of workshop and training grant per academic year.

“Education is one of our priorities. We aim to uplift the quality of life of Navotenos by helping them get access to holistic learning and be able to develop and hone their potential,” the mayor said.

Under Tiangco’s helm, the city government launched the NavoTours bus for public elementary and high schools in the city.  It will be used for city-funded student field trips and as a means of transportation for students and teachers who attend competitions outside of Navotas.

The city also conducted the 2019 Navotas Youth Congress which gave young Navoteños the opportunity to learn about mental health, financial literacy, design thinking, among others.

Participants also attended seminars on Filipino sign language and Baybayin writing as well as applications for student exchanges and scholarships abroad.

The city also provided learning sessions for senior citizens. Ten completed the workshop on basic computer literacy. Other batches are scheduled to undertake the 3-day course.

“Learning does not stop once you graduate from formal schooling. It is a life-long quest. We aim to encourage Navoteños, both young and old, to always yearn to learn,” Tiangco said.

In recognition of its endeavors to provide quality education to its constituents, Navotas recently bagged the Seal of Good Education Governance from Synergeia Foundation for the second consecutive year.
