Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso on Monday sacked a Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau officer who was caught on video extorting from a motorist in Sta. Cruz district.

The MTPB officer, identified as Ricardo Galit, was turned over to authorities after the mayor threatened to fire all city traffic enforcers should they fail to surrender their guilty colleague within 24 hours.

“If you do not point me to your extorting member, you’d suffer the same fate because your silence is equal to agreement,” Domagoso said.

Galit is currently detained at the office of the Manila City Hall Special Mayor’s Reaction Team.

During the flag-raising ceremony Monday, Domagoso said the traffic officer should have just fined the driver of a motorcycle for carrying three passengers.

The video, captured on closed-circuit television cameras, was posted by the city’s public information office.

Galit was later arrested by police, and stripped of his badge by Moreno, who said the city is preparing charges against the traffic officer.

As of Monday evening, the video of the incident garnered over 90,000 views and more than 2,000 shares on social media.
