Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Sunday vowed to continue expanding the city’s Capital Assistance Program to its Capital Assistance Program as part of his commitment to uplift their lives.
Estrada, who is running for his third and last term as Manila chief executive, said the CAP is a fund for small-scale businesses of poor families in the city.
The mayor wants to help microbusinesses and small enterprises in the city experience continuous financial growth, pointing out that micro, small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the city government’s rapid progress.
“We will give these small entrepreneurs a chance to grow their businesses, after all, they complement Manila’s economic growth,” Estrada said.
Since 2013 when the mayor put up CAP, thousands of indigenous Manileños have been provided with start-up capital of P5,000 to P10,000. The program has produced standalone stores, food kiosks, and other backyard businesses that provided extra income to the beneficiaries and helped with their day-to-day expenses. Vito Barcelo
Manila Department of Social Welfare officer in charge Nanet Tayag said through the program, poor families earned additional income and helped send their children through school.
The city of Manila has already provided P90 million to more than 20,000 beneficiaries from 2013 to 2019 under the Educational Assistance Program.
Estrada said the EAP helps Manila’s children with some of their school expenses, including projects that will complete their academic requirements. Vito Barcelo
