Navoteños gain free birth docs via ordinance

The Navotas City Government on Monday distributed birth certificates to Navoteños who filed their birth registration belatedly.

An initial batch of 120 indigent Navoteños benefitted from the free late birth registration project of Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and Coun. Ethel Joy Arriola-Mejia.

Residents normally pay around P1,500 to process late birth registration, but beneficiaries of the project received their birth certificates for free.

Fees, penalties and charges on late birth registration were waived under City Ordinance 2018-19 authored by Arriola-Mejia and signed by Geronimo.

In his speech, Mayor John Rey Tiangco congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to tell others about the project.

He noted that due to financial constraints, some families find it difficult to pay for birth registration fees.

“Navotas also has a free birth registration program for Navoteño children born at the Navotas City Hospital or the city’s lying-in center. All you have to do is comply with the requirements,” he said.

Residents born in Navotas may still avail of the free late birth registration. For inquiries, they may call 281-8531 local 300 or 310.
