The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) is one of the implementing agencies under the umbrella of the Task Force Bangon Marawi, tasked to provide water and sanitation facilities in support of the recovery efforts in Marawi City.

LWUA acting administrator Jeci Lapus said one of the priority projects it is currently implementing is the reactivation and rehabilitation of the Marawi City Water District (MCWD) system, covering the 19 served barangays outside the Most Affected Area (MAA) during the city’s siege by terrorists in 2017.

Lapus added that the project involves reactivation of the operations of the MCWD, purchase of tools and equipment, and provision of temporary water supply for returning Internally Displaced Persons at the MAA.

The project, estimated at P30.14 million, is funded through the Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program under the 2018 National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Fund.

The project is expected to be completed in four months, but due to restrictions imposed related to COVID-19, project implementation period was extended and still ongoing to date, Lapus said.
