Camp Olivas, Pampanga—About 264 firecrackers zones have been established by local government units and the police in preparation for Christmas and New Years’ Eve revelries in Central Luzon.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, director of the Central Luzon police, said the province of Bulacan has the most number of pyrotechnics zones with a total of 78 dedicated areas.

“It’s not unusual for the province (to have that many) being the center of the fireworks industry of the country,” said De Leon in a statement.

While 24 LGUs – including five cities and 19 municipalities – have declared a total ban of any kind of pyrotechnics during the holiday season, De Leon said others opted to have dedicated areas instead.

“We once again appeal to the public to refrain from using illegal firecrackers to avoid any injuries. Instead of firecrackers, we could all welcome the New Year with other forms of merriment,” said De Leon.
