Sorsogon unveils 4 modernized district hospitals

Sorsogon City—Quality medical service will now be available to Sorsoganons with the modernization of four of its eight district hospitals, which were unveiled recently.

Governor Chiz Escudero said the upgrading of all district and provincial hospitals, which are managed by the provincial government, is part of his administration’s aim to provide Sorsoganons with quality medical service through health institutions furnished with modern medical equipment.

Recently inaugurated were the Donsol District Hospital, Matnog Medicare Hospital, Bulan Medicare Hospital and Prieto Diaz Medicare Hospital.

Ongoing renovations are also being done at the Irosin District Hospital, Gubat District Hospital, Castilla District Hospital, and Magallanes Medicare Hospital, which are expected to be fully equipped with enhanced medical service by 2021.

“Naniniwala ako na sa ating paglalagay ng mga modernong kagamitan at pagpapaganda sa ating mga pagamutan mas lalong magiging maigting ang paglilingkod ng ating mga health workers sa lahat ng mga Sorsoganon na mangangailangan ng kanilang serbisyo,” Governor Chiz said.

New equipment like x-ray machines, 2D Echocardiogram machines, ultrasound machines along with new hospital beds, examination tables, air condition units, linens and pillows were provided to upgrade the hospitals aside from the structural improvements done on buildings itself.

“Isinama na rin natin sa improvement ng bawat ospital ay ang pagtatanim ng mga puno at halaman sa paligid ng bawat ospital para hindi lamang sa kalinisan ng kapaligiran kundi pati na rin sa kagandahan ng paligid at malinis na simoy ng hangin,” the governor said.

Escudero also revealed that aside from structural improvements and installing modern medical equipment, the provincial government has started a referral system for those in need of additional medical attention extending from the Rural Health Units (RHU) to the district hospitals, then to the provincial hospital reaching up to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRRT) and to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

“This system would help those who would need critical medical attention to avail of it in the country’s premiere public hospitals like PGH,” Escudero added.

Donsol District Hospital, which serves Donsol and Pilar municipalities, was the first to be inaugurated last November 19 where successful joint elective operations were also conducted by its doctors, doctors from the Provincial Health Office and the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital (SPH) a week prior.

Medical procedures conducted were cholecystectomy, hemorrhoidectomy, and disarticulations of left foot.

Matnog Medicare Hospital, which covers both Matnog and Sta. Magdalena municipalities, and Bulan Medicare Hospital, which serves the highly populated Bulan municipality, were inaugurated last November 20. Prieto Diaz Medicare Hospital, which serves the southern part of Gubat municipality and the Bacon District of Sorsogon City, was inaugurated last November 21.

The governor also disclosed that the 17 RHUs all over the province are also set to be structurally renovated as well as provided with the necessary medical equipment like x-ray machines, ultrasound machines and 2d echocardiogram machines expected to be completed by 2021.

“Binigyan din natin ng pansin ang pagsasaayos sa mga Rural Health Units (RHU) ng mga munisipyo para mas maagap na matutugunan ang mga pangangailangang medical ng mga Sorsoganon sa bawat munisipyo at higit sa lahat, hindi na nila kinakailangan pang dumayo sa ibang munisipyo para mabigyan ng pang-unang lunas medikal,” Governor Chiz said.

Renovations are already ongoing at the Rural Health Units of Barcelona, Pilar, Bulusan, and Sta. Magdalena, the governor revealed, adding, that upgrading plans are also underway for the Sorsogon City West, East, and Bacon District Health Offices; Prieto Diaz RHU, Gubat RHU, Casiguran RHU, Juban RHU, Magallanes Birthing Facility, Bulan RHU, Matnog RHU and Irosin RHU.
