Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—Governor Carlos M. Padilla gave P25,000 to each of the families of two Novo Vizcayano casualties during the onslaught of Typhoon “Ulysses” last Nov. 12, when torrential rains caused a mudslide in Sitio Kinalabasa, Barangay Runruno.

The mudslide partially buried the house of Jimmy Tanesa, which led to the death of Julie Ann Tanesa and Francisco Taguiling Napadawan, a native of Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya.

Padilla handed the cash assistance to the bereaved families during the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment Meeting of the provincial disaster office at the Pasalubong Center in Bayombong town.

The recipients were Jimmy Tanesa, father of the victim, and Renato Pumihic, uncle of Francisco Napadawan, a farm laborer also from Sitio Compound.

The cash assistance was intended to augment some of the financial needs of the victims for burial and transportation to their place of origin.

“The Provincial Government of Nueva Vizcaya was locating the families of the other eight victims in Runruno to give the same financial assistance too,” said Padilla.

The other casualties were identified as Ben Junior Bulayo, Dexter Kurt Nah-oy, and Cresencia Nah-oy, all recovered at Sitio Bit-ang; Jomar Cumihang Ohdon, Noel Tayaban Buyaco, Mark Conie Mangandat Binwag, Joel Buyucan, and Omar Bolla, all recovered at Sitio Compound.

In an interview with Manila Standard, Quezon disaster official Engr. Allyson Padua, who was the overall in charge of the search, rescue, and retrieval team, said: “The rest of the victims are identified by the joint composite investigating team of the MGB-PNP-DILG to be strangers and transients in our municipality.”

“They are from other provinces like Quirino and Ifugao. That’s why we are still trying to find the families of the other victims to help them, aside from the search, rescue and retrieval that we had conducted because after the immediate retrieval of the cadavers their relatives took them home to their respective provinces,” Padua added.

Governor Padilla congratulated the efficient and systematic strategy implemented by the rescuers in the retrieval operations of the casualties.

“I noticed the efficiency of the rescuers, they worked systematically in rotation and routine is highly observe, that’s why they accomplished the retrieval fast,” he said.
