SM arm starts KSK agri training in Benguet town

Kapangan, Benguet—Farmers and guests gathered at the Municipal Hall here to participate in the launch of SM Foundation’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers’ Training Program on Sustainable Agriculture.

With the launch, farmers began their 12-week training on effective backyard planting and small-scale farming techniques for fruits and vegetables. 

To date, this is the 219th batch of SM Foundation’s KSK program.

Aside from the 165 farmer-participants, those who attended the launch were representatives of project partners TESDA, Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development, St Isidore the Farmer Learning Center, Philippine Information Agency, Local Government of Kapangan, Macondray Philippines, SM Markets and SM Supermalls-SM City Baguio.

With SM Foundation’s partnership with TESDA and St. Isidore the Farmer Learning Center, farmer-participants are trained in organic agriculture production that could lead to a TESDA NC II certification.

Kapangan is mainly an agricultural municipality with 13.7 hectares of its almost 17-hectare land area devoted to agriculture. It is divided into 15 barangays namely Balakbak, Beleng-Belis, Boklaoan, Cayapes, Central Kapangan, Cuba, Datakan, Gadang, Gaswiling, Labueg, Paykek, Pongayan, Pudong, Sagubo and Taba-ao.

Situated on the northern part of Benguet, Kapangan is 29 km from Benguet’s capital town of La Trinidad and can be reached by a 2.5-hours ride from the city of Baguio.
