Balanga City—The provincial government recently distributed stipends to 1,280 beneficiaries of the Iskolar ng Bataan program studying outside the province.

Vice Governor Cris Garcia spearheaded the distribution of the cash refund at the People’s Center in the capitol compound.

“Don't allow this opportunity to finish college slip,” Garcia told the beneficiaries. “Education is your passport to achieving your dreams.”

Iskolar ng Bataan coordinator Ramon Canas said a total of P6.552 million was distributed to scholars studying outside Bataan.

Each college scholar from the province receives P5,000 per semester. However, each scholar from Balanga City gets P7,000 per semester, and from Morong town P6,000 per semester.

Canas said new scholars got their allowance last December 10 and old scholars on December 12, respectively.

About 200 “poor but deserving scholars” got an additional P5,000 each, he added.

“The choosing of poor but deserving scholars is through the  National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction, which is a Strategic Initiative of the Iskolar ng Bataan program,” Canas explained.

Earlier, the Top 30 students per municipality for the 2nd semester of 2018-2019 were rewarded with P5,000 cash each, with a total of 360 bright scholars rewarded.

In addition, the top scholar in each town received P5,000, and the overall topnotcher in the province another P5,000.
