BALANGA CITY, Bataan—Vice Governor Cris Garcia led the Sangguniang Panlalawigan in unanimously passing a resolution giving financial assistance to “poor and deserving” graduates who are residents of the province for review of board and bar examination.

The availing graduates who are “Iskolar ng Bataan” will get P5,000 financial assistance, and those who are not will get P3,000.

During its regular session, the SP approved the resolution after satisfying questions for clarification from Board Member Aries Gaza.

“As long they are ‘poor and deserving’ graduates from Bataan, they are qualified for the financial assistance,” the vice governor, who was coordinator of the provincial government’s Iskolar ng Bataan program for many years, said to her colleagues.

“We cannot be sure that a graduate from expensive school like Ateneo is wealthy, for all we know he could have studied there merely by way of scholarship,” Garcia pointed out.

“Actually, the provincial government through Gov. Abet [Garcia] is already giving financial assistance to the graduates who are requesting, but with the SP resolution it’s becoming a program and for CoA requirement,” she added.

Board Member Rey Ibe, SP chairman of the committee on education, who motioned for the approval of the resolution, said: “We know that board reviews are done in different months of the year, this resolution is effective this year 2017.”

Garcia has vowed to back all the programs of the governor providing benefits to the residents of the province.
