Camp Olivas multi-purpose hall burns down

Camp Olivas, Pampanga—A multi-purpose hall in the regional police headquarters here was gutted by a fire that broke out late Thursday evening.

The blaze rapidly spread to the entire building, but no one was hurt said Police Brig. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, director of the Police Regional Office 3 stationed in the City of San Fernando.

On his Facebook page, Sermonia narrated how quickly the fire, of still unknown origin, gutted the studio of PRO3 “Rektang Konek,” a social media action center being shown on UNTV and FB live, which the general hosts.

Firefighters from nearby towns rushed to help douse the fire but failed to do so in time.

Sermonia said the multi-purpose hall is a state-of-the art building constructed during the term of his predecessors. He said it was also utilized as temporary mini-food bank, where food and non-food logistics donated by different non-governmental organization for calamity victims were stored.

The building also served as a venue of different police activities, including conferences and meetings with top brass of the Philippine National Police, said Sermonia.

He expressed thanks that no further damage was incurred after the fire that lasted for almost two hours.

The regional director’s quarters, where Sermonia stays, is situated at the back of the multi-purpose hall.

The Bureau of Fire Protection arson investigators hinted that faulty electrical wiring might have tripped and caused the fire due to power surges. Cost of damages was likewise to be determined.
