The new Clark International Airport (CRK), groomed as Asia’s Next Premier Gateway, is a marriage set between history and the future, with its design inspirations coming from local cultural identity executed with modern techniques to provide a heritage-rich airport experience.
Built by Megawide Construction Corp. and partner GMR Infrastructure Ltd., the new terminal brings together folklore, nature, and local flavor.
“This project is a nod to our commitment of engineering a first-world Philippines,” said Edgar Saavedra, Megawide chairman. Hong Kong-based architectural firm, Integrated Design Associates Ltd. (IDA), designed the terminal building.
Megawide and its partners used glue laminated timber (glulam) from Austria to build the roof of the facility. Among the “no face-to-face interaction” features of the CRK are common-use self-service kiosks (CUSS), and self-service bag drops.
