Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) recently held a “Shore It Up Confluence: Charting Our 10th Year” conference with community leaders from Alaminos City, Pangasinan; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte;  Mabini, Batangas; Medina, Misamis Oriental and Cordova, Cebu to harness synergy to preserve the  marine ecosystem in these areas. The event was boosted by talks from  Shore It Up’s board of advisors, a veritable all-star cast of ecosystem warriors, namely,  Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary Rear Admiral Geronimo Reyes; mangrove ecosystem expert Dr. Jurgenne Primavera;  ecotourism advocate Caloy Libosada; endangered marine species authority AA Yaptinchay (Inset), and technical diving expert Jake Miranda. MPIC vice president for communications Melody Del Rosario (Shown here with MPIC CEO and president Jose Lim, and LGU officials) said the conglomerate is taking its environmental advocacy to the next level by engaging in long-term sustainable programs involving local stakeholders.  “Shore It Up has mustered over 75,000 volunteers from the government sector, academe and civil society groups in activities such as underwater and coastal cleanup, mangrove and tree planting, giant clam rearrangement, artificial reef restoration, environmental education and livelihood for coastal villagers,” Del Rosario said.
