The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. said sales increased to 3,697 units in June this year, a month-on-month improvement of 198 percent over May sales of 1,239 units.

While June showed significant sales and recovery highlighting pent-up demand during the lockdown, AVID said many factors would continue to dampen industry sales in the coming months.

“While AVID members and their partner dealerships have gone to great lengths to COVID-proof their facilities, strengthen online e-commerce assets, and offer extraordinary promotions and deals to win back customers and encourage buying, headwinds remain. These include lower remittances, weaker demand, and the prospect of a second wave, so we can’t let our guard down,” said AVID president Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Passenger car sales in June rose 239 percent to 1,199 units from 354 in May, those of while light commercial vehicles climbed 181 percent to 2,462 from 876 units.

Sales of heavy-duty commercial vehicles also showed better performance with 36 units in June, up 300 percent from nine units in May.
