A subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. said over the weekend it plans to extend the Cebu-Cordoba Link Expressway in preparation for an increase in vehicle traffic.

“Cebu City is looking at reviving the Guadalupe ramp exit and entry. We are just waiting for the Cebu City government to come up with the ordinance,” Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. president and general manager Allan Alfon told reporters.

Alfon said the company would spend about P1 billion to build the Guadalupe exit and entry ramp.

“If that is realized, then more tourists [would be] coming from the island. It is an additional ramp that leads you right to the central business district, “ he said.

Alfon said vehicle traffic would increase in the coming months.

“A lot of constructions are being started in Cordova. We believe that this provides the sustainable volume for traffic to increase. Once you have more constructions in Cordova and the island of Mactan, then we would have more motorists coming from Class 2 during the construction,” he said.

The daily vehicle traffic at CCLEX reached 12,500 and is expected to rise to 20,000 by end of the year.

The company generates P1 million to P1.4 million in daily revenues.

The 8.5-kilometer CCLEX spans the Mactan Channel, linking Cebu City with the municipality of Cordova and outlying towns of Cebu province.

CCLEX has two lanes in each direction that will provide a safe, quick and scenic passage to around 50,000 vehicles daily, easing the traffic in two old bridges―the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge.

CCLEX has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters to allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge.
