Electric cooperatives in the country recorded a three-percent increase in electricity sales during the third quarter year-on-year as some economic activities resumed, the National Electrification Administration said.

NEA’s Information Technology and Communication Services Department said in a report to NEA Administrator Edgardo Masongsong that the ECs sold 6,153 gigawatt-hours of electricity from July to September this year from 5,950 Gwh a year ago.

NEA ITCSD also reported that the figure was also three-percent higher than the 5,988 GWh of electricity sold by the electric co-ops in the second quarter this year.

NEA ITCSD manager Roderick Padua said the energy consumption level registered in the third quarter was “gearing towards the normal level prior to the coronavirus disease pandemic.”

Most businesses resumed full commercial operations in the third quarter as transportation became more available.
