Gatchalian pushes transport subsidies

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian proposed an energy subsidy program for the transport sector.

Gatchalian said consumer protection is of utmost importance in filing his priority bills in the energy sector, although he would no longer chair the Senate Energy Committee.

Senate Bill No. 384 or the proposed Pantawid Pasada Act seeks to establish an ESP to cushion the adverse effects of sudden and drastic increases in the prices of petroleum products.

Gatchalian said this would guarantee a speedy and simplified procedure as its provisions mandate the distribution of cash through digital payment systems to qualified beneficiaries within 30 days from the issuance of certification from the Department of Energy when the average price of oil for three consecutive months is equal to or hit more than $80 a barrel.

Gatchalian also vowed to continue pursuing the country’s energy security through sustainable and alternative sources.
