Gov’t to auction supply of 2,000-MW renewables

The Department of Energy issued a notice of auction for the supply of 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity across the three power grids, which is expected to further spur RE development in the country.

The notice, signed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi through the Green Energy Auction Committee, invites all qualified bidders to participate in the first round of Green Energy Auction Program for RE pursuant to Department Circular DC 2021-11-0036 entitled ‘Providing the Revised Guidelines for the Green Energy Auction Program in the Philippines.’

Documents showed the agency is seeking suppliers for 80 MW and 50 MW of hydro capacity in Luzon and Mindanao, respectively. It also sought offers from biomass suppliers for 60 MW in Luzon, 120 MW in Visayas and 50 MW in Mindanao.

The agency also asked developers to make offers for solar capacity, specifically 900 MW in Luzon, 260 MW in Visayas and 100 MW in Mindanao. It asked interested parties to submit offers from wind developers for 360 MW in Luzon and 20 MW in the Visayas.
