CLARK FREEPORT—DITO Telecommunication Corp. invested about P13.6 billion in its Clark data center project and will spend an additional P6.9 billion in next four years, a top airport official said Tuesday.

The Google-campus inspired data center recently broke ground at Clark Aviation Complex, according to Clark International Airport Corp. president and chief executive Aaron Aquino.

Aquino said the telecommunications company would hire 800 workers in the first year of its operations, most likely residents of cities and towns surrounding Clark, and up to 4,500 locals by the fifth year of operations.

Aside from the state-of-the-art data center, DITO’s eight-hectare operations center will include a serve-call center, a regional center and a research and development facility. Its presence is a “commitment to provide world-class telecommunications services that the Filipinos deserve,” said Aquino.

Aquino said DITO’s investment in Clark was a welcome respite to the aviation complex owned and managed by the CIAC.
