Stocks rise on Trump’s tax cut comment; MerryMart leads gainers

Stocks rose for a second day in line with global equities after President Donald Trump said he plans a tax cut on capital gains.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose 23 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 5,953.94 Tuesday.

The all-share index also went up 23 points, or 0.7 percent, to settle at 3,537.29, on a value turnover of P5 billion. Gainers led losers, 115 to 84, while 38 issues were unchanged.

Twelve of the 20 most active stocks ended in the green, led by MerryMart Consumer Corp. which advanced 4.5 percent to P3.03 and DITO CME Holdings Corp. which rose 4.4 percent to P3.10.  

Puregold Price Club Inc. went up 4 percent to P52.
