The 42-member Bankers Association of the Philippines formed a partnership with the Department of Justice to intensify the campaign against cyber crimes, the group’s president said Wednesday.

BAP president Wick Veloso said in an online briefing the partnership would involve the training of cybercrime enforcers and prosecutors.

“Filipinos have become comfortable in conducting bank transactions online [especially during the pandemic]… We will partner with DoJ to train cybercrime enforcers and prosecutors,” Veloso said.

“Filipinos are among those active in social media around the world, so it is important for them to be aware [of the risks],” Veloso said.

The BAP and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas also virtually signed a memorandum of understanding to intensify the campaign against cyber crimes. The MOU seals the partnership in the fight against cybercrime and fraud. The collaboration aims to elevate cybersecurity awareness to help better protect the banking and general public from cybercrime activities.
