Air Carriers Association of the Philippines wants to re-open the country’s boarder to foreigners with “essential travel” after five months of lockdown to boost the local economy.

“We should open our borders initially to foreigners starting with ‘essential travel’ (business investment , professional, expats) because we can screen them and track them,” Robert Lim, vice president and executive director of ACAP, said.

He said the country’s major airports—Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport—have invested on PCR testing capacity to screen all international arrivals.

“The philosophy is that business and the economy has to restart already after five months of lockdown for the greater good,” Lim said.

He added the country’s domestic travel should also open their “ borders” with the new screening test that are coming out.
