Real estate players bullish on prospects

Real estate practitioners expressed optimism on the growth prospects of the housing and real estate industry under the incoming Marcos administration.

This is the general sentiments of speakers during the first day of the two-day 26th National Convention online of the National Real Estate Association, jointly conducted with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development which opened June 16.

The government agency speakers said the housing infrastructure is ready for transition, with its 2040 housing roadmap and plan. Private housing research and consultants also expressed the potential opportunities in the housing market, which could be realized in tandem with the economic policies and programs of the new administration.

The convention, which will run until June 17, features 17 speakers with presentations on various housing topics and issues. DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario delivered a welcome message during the opening rites.

Del Rosario expressed hope that the convention will bring about the desired housing goals as well as serve as catalyst in this effort.

For his part, Re-elected Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, in-coming chairman of the Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement cited the committee’s contribution, which he headed during the 16th, 17th and 18th Congress. “I look forward to working with NREA and industry stakeholders in the 19th Congress, he added.

Keynote speaker was former President, and currently re-elected Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. She said that “real estate was among those hit by the pandemic. Nonetheless, real estate has a huge potential for the country.”

“Let is lessen the uncertainties of this “VUCA” environment by keeping our partnership up, by applying the lessons of NREA’s 31 years, and especially keeping our hopes up “ she added.

Other speakers on the first day, morning session: include Joey Rodovan, country head of Jones Lang Lasalle spoke on “The Real Estate Outlook, 2nd Quarter 2022 (A Review); lawyer Angelito F. Aguila, Director and OIC of Housing and Real Estate Regulation Bureau of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development on the topic: “Updates in DHSUD Real Estate Development Regulations”; Carlo Luis P. Rabat, president and chief executive of National Home Mortgage Finance Corp. on the topic: “Government Secondary Mortgage Market and Securitization”; and Arlene R. Reyes, vice president of the Acquired Assets Management Group on “Updates and Program of Pag-IBIG Fund.”
