MPCALA Holdings Inc., the tollway unit of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., said it expects the Laguna section of the Cavite Laguna Expressway to become fully operational this week.

MPCALA Holdings president and general manager Roberto Bontia said the toll operating permit was expected to be issued by the Toll Regulatory Board by Monday as promised by Public Works Secretary Mark Villar.

He said that once the permits were issued, the section would be fully operational and covered by MPCALA’s full-time traffic management teams and 24/7 emergency roadside services.

Villa said the 10-kilometer section of the Cavite Laguna Expresswaybetween SLEX Mamplasan Interchange and Sta. Rosa City in Laguna would initially  benefit about 10,000 motorists daily.

“I have requested the concession company, MPCALA Holdings to keep this section open and so that our holiday goers can continue to enjoy this shortcut from Manila to Tagaytay City. We all know that Tagaytay City is a traditional Christmas holiday destination of our kababayans and this is our way of making their family road trips as convenient as possible,” Villar said.

Partially open since Oct. 30, 2019, the expressway section already benefited thousands of daily commuters who are able to bypass the traffic choked Mamplasan to Sta. Rosa road.

Villar said no toll would be collected for this section until February 2020.

The rest of the 45-kilometer CALAX is currently under construction.

Once completed, the 2×2 lane expressway will provide a high speed alternate route between Cavite Expressway in Kawit, Cavite to South Luzon Expressway at Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna. CALAX will have eight interchanges in Kawit, Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, Silang, Silang East, Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Blvd. and Laguna Technopark.

“The CALAX showcases advanced tolling technology and features the new automatic license plate recognition system that, for the first time, enables motorists to enjoy barrier-free entry into the expressway system and eliminates queuing at both entry/exit points,” Bontia said.

Bontia said the traffic management system would feature strategically installed (IP Based) speed detection cameras and high-definition CCTV system to ensure motorist safety and quick emergency road side services.

“We also expect CALAX to further boost the development of the fast growing areas south of Metro Manila,”  he said.
