Port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc. said Thursday it won a case against the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU)  for unlawful labor practices.

The company led by businessman Enrique Razon said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange “a jury verdict in Portland, Oregon in the United States of America was recently rendered in favor of ICTSI Oregon Inc. in a case it filed against the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and ILWU Local 8 for unlawful labor practices”.

ICTSI said the jury verdict also awarded $96.63 million in damages to unit ICTSI Oregon Inc.  The court, however, has yet to enter judgement on the verdict and once this is entered, the ILWU and Local 8 would have 28 days to file post-verdict motions.

“We are grateful to the jury for its diligence in dealing with a very complicated case and holding the appropriate parties responsible for violations of the law that resulted in the critical impairment of operations at Oregon’s only container terminal,” ICTSI Oregon president and chief executive Elvis Ganda said in a statement.

“The jury’s decision validates ICTSI’s determination to seek justice in an unfortunate situation that impacted many local businesses, communities and the people that depended on Terminal 6 as a vital connection to international trade,” he said.
