Holcim Philippines made the commitment during the launch of the “Holcim Helps” campaign in Makati City which standardizes the communication programs of its various sites for social and environmental initiatives.

Holcim said that by using more qualified wastes as alternative resources and raw materials, it would undertake various programs for sustainability along with efficiency upgrades to reduce carbon emissions by 2030.

“We’re pushing for sustainable products and solutions which require less energy or resources to use that will deliver similar or even superior performance specifically for road construction,” said Holcim Philippines environment manager Steph Fogoso.

Last year, the company co-processed 160,000 metric tons of qualified wastes to replace traditional fuels. A part of that volume is from the 120 million packs of cigarettes confiscated by the government.

“Currently we are engaging with public stakeholders and the key builders on road infrastructure so that they will be aware that we have these sustainable solutions or options for them,” said Fogoso.

The company said that in terms of water consumption, plants are equipped with water recycling facilities to reduce freshwater use by 40 percent and 30 percent versus 1990 and 2015 levels, respectively.

Holcim Philippines president and chief executive John Stull said such initiatives would enable the company to be a bigger contributor to the nation’s progress while also improving its performance.
