The Energy Regulatory Commission has slapped Hedcor Bukidnon Inc. (HBI) with penalties amounting to P8.38 million for exceeding the allowable outage allowance on generating plants.

Aboitiz Power Corp. disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday that HBI informed it of the penalties as part of the review and investigation conducted by the ERC on power generation companies.

Aboitiz Power said the ERC promulgated a decision dated June 15, directing HBI to pay the penalty of P8.38 million for having incurred outage allowance days over the period January 3, 2021, to April 25, 2021, exceeding the ERC’s standard of 6.8 days per year.

The case arose after torrential rains resulted in landslides that caused extensive damage to the run-of-river hydro units of HBI in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.

The damage resulting from the landslides forced HBI to have 102.1 days of excess unplanned outage days to bring each of the Manolo Fortich 1 hydroelectric power plant’s Unit 3 and Unit 4 back online.
