Cebu-based steel product maker and property developer Chioson Group of Companies (Chioson Group) has tapped anew clean energy leader First Gen Corp. of the Lopez Group to supply additional renewable energy to run the factory of another Chioson Group subsidiary.

Chioson Group, through unit Puresteel Manufacturing Corp. (Puresteel), firmed up recently a contract with First Gen’s wholly-owned subsidiary First Gen Energy Solutions Inc. (FGES) to supply electricity from a clean and renewable source.

Under the contract that took effect on March 26, Puresteel will buy 600 kilowatts (kW) of RE for its facilities in Mandaue, Cebu. Energy Development Corp., another First Gen subsidiary, will supply the power from its geothermal power plants in Leyte island.

With the new power supply contract, the Chioson Group now draws all its power needs, totaling 2,100 kilowatts or 2.1 megawatts, from EDC’s geothermal facilities. The group of companies aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025.
