Okada Manila, the gaming resort built by Japanese billionaire Kazuo Okada, is hiring 8,000 Filipinos with the completion and opening of the $2.4-billion facility in December.

Okada Manila said it would become the largest integrated resort in the country with features touted to be among the best in Asia and the the world.

The project, Okada’s biggest investment, is expected to contribute heavily both in generating local jobs and in attracting tourism revenues, Okada Manila said.

It said the first phase of its operation would employ 8,000 people, including corporate professionals, resort managers and personnel.

Once completed, Okada Manila will be a sprawling 21.55-hectare development that includes two hotels, a dancing water fountain similar to the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas, Asia’s first beach club/nightclub that can accommodate up to 4,500 people and other luxurious amenities such as high-end food and beverage outlets, retail outlets, spa and function areas.

Okada Manila said that at the height of the construction, up to 19,000 construction workers were employed.  There were still 2,400 regular employees working on the site this month, it said.

Okada Manila said that with its unique and world-class features, the project would have the potential to help increase tourism revenues in the country.

Okada Manila’s direct competitors in Entertainment City in Parañaque brought in significant earnings in the first half of 2016 alone.

Bloomberry Resorts Corp., which runs Solaire Resort and Casino, posted a core income of P174 million, while Melco Crown Philippines, which built City of Dreams, reported net operating  revenues of over P10 billion.

After Okada Manila, the Westside City Resorts World will open in the Entertainment City in 2020, sustaining the foreign direct investment inflow towards the tail-end of the Duterte presidency.

Okada Manila chief operating officer Takahiro Usui earlier said the project was expected to be fully operational by the end of 2016.

The Y-shaped hotel and casino is being considered as the venue for the Miss Universe pageant in 2017.

The three-level complex would feature a fountain spanning an area equivalent to 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
