New coco water process

Camarines Sur coconut farmers stand to benefit from a new coconut water processing facility that will provide an additional source of income in the province.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said the coconut industry can generate an additional income from processing about 85 percent of coconut water treated as waste product.

The Agriculture Department identified coconut water processing as a new value-added product that will help farmers improve their means of livelihood, after the market for virgin coconut oil reached its saturation point.

“Coconut farmers are the poorest in the agriculture sector. But this time, we will use coconut to change the lives of coconut farmers in the country through the non-traditional coco water,” Alcala said.
