Retail store operator Puregold Price Inc. said it has identified densely-populated sites in the Visayas and Mindanao as areas for expansion.

“Luzon has always been in the center of our plans and operations. While we continue to spread our presence in deepest reaches of the provinces in Luzon, we also want to capture the largely untapped markets of the Visayas and Mindanao,” Puregold vice president for operations Antonio delos Santos said during the press launch of Puregold Perks card Thursday morning at the Acacia Hotel in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Puregold Perks is a non-revenue promotion to reward frequent shoppers with points that can be used to purchase goods from Puregold stores. The card is now close to achieving 500,000 users and may reach about a million users by end-2015, the company said.

“We want this [Perks card] to be available to our customers in VisMin and all the promotional offers we are introducing,” delos Santos said.

He said Puregold had only five stores in the south, located in Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City, Bacolod City and Digos and Lanan in Davao City.

The company plans to have at least 250 stores by end-2015, including 10 new stores in the Visayas and Mindanao. Expansion in the two regions will complement another expansion format of acquiring groceries and supermarkets, the company said.

Among the chains acquired by Puregold were Parco Supermarket, Eunilane Supermaket, Grocer-E and Sioland Supermarket in San Pablo, Laguna.

Puregold said organic expansion would cost the company an estimated capital expenditure of P3 billion to P3.5 billion.  The company maintains a double-digit growth forecast of at least 10 percent in 2015.

The company said it was also pursuing an agreement with Ayala Malls management to create mini-store concepts at all Ayala malls nationwide.
