Nokia, 11 Finnish firms explore PH

Twelve companies from Finland led by Nokia are scouting for business and trade opportunities in the Philippines.

Executives of the 12 Finnish firms arrived in the country Monday as a part of the mission organized by the Nordic Business Council of the Philippines, the first in 12 years.

Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland Jan Vapaavuori said “the visit is a timely one as this is the 60th anniversary of Filipino-Finnish diplomatic relations.”

The 12 leading Finnish companies are led by Nokia, a global leader in the field of network infrastructure headquartered in Espoo, Finland.  It has over 15 years of presence in the Philippines where it employs 920 employees.

Other companies that joined the Philippine mission are software firm Comptel Corp., Infranet solutions provider Eltel Networks Corp., elevator maker Kone, crane manufacturer Konecranes, training company LS Academy, personnel services unit Opteam, mobile software solutions provider Pajat Solutions Ltd., international consulting and engineering company Pöyry, global industrial machineries manufacturer Sandvik and power solutions provider Wartsila.

Helsinki-based Comptel Corp. is an international software company specializing in telecommunications. Comptel develops, sells and delivers software products and related services which enhance the business of communications.

Eltel Networks provides Infranet solutions based on an effective interplay between electricity, telecom and IT. Eltel specializes in combining these technologies into an emerging intelligent infrastructure called Infranet.

Kone is a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry with over 100 years of experience while Konecranes is a world-leading group of lifting businesses that  provides productivity-enhancing lifting solutions as well as services for lifting equipment and machine tools.

Wärtsilä has been a significant player in the Philippines power generation sector since the 1990s with at least 100 employees.
